The 4th of July and DUIs

This week millions of people prepare to celebrate Independence Day with family, fireworks, BBQ, and fully stocked coolers of alcohol.  The Fourth of July is among the deadliest holidays for drunk driving every year due to the increased in both alcohol consumption and driving.

According to the United States Department of Transportation over the 4th of July period in 2017 (June 30-July 5) 39% of fatal car accidents occurred in alcohol-impaired crashes.  60% of those fatal crashes involved at least one driver with a .15 or higher.

Due to the history of heightened DUI accidents around the 4thof July holiday, CHP and other law enforcement agencies will have increased patrols and DUI checkpoints.  Enhanced patrols and maximum enforcement periods will generally begin at the end of the workday on July 3 and end early morning of July 5.

Have fun and celebrate, but if you find yourself charged with a DUI over the holiday weekend, hiring a DUI attorney who knows California DUI laws inside and out can help you avoid the high costs of a DUI.  Jones Law has extensive negotiation and trial experience in DUI cases. Let us use our knowledge to defend your rights and freedom.
