June 2017
Our client was facing multiple felony charges including robbery (Penal code 211) and assault with a weapon (Penal code 245(a)(1)). The client was looking at a maximum sentence of 6 years in prison with two possible strike charges. Mr Jones took the case over from the appointed public defender. Mr Jones investigated and prepared the case for preliminary hearing. On the day of the preliminary hearing Mr Jones negotiated a plea agreement wherein all the felony charges were dismissed and the client only entered a conditional plea to a misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. The conditional plea agreement means the plea will be withdrawn and the misdemeanor charges dismissed in one year. The client received no jail and no fine.
