Domestic Violence

Domestic violence is treated very seriously under California law. Consequences upon a conviction for such a charge may be severe, including jail time, heavy fines and even restrictions on child visitation. Domestic violence is defined as when a spouse, family member or co inhabitant inflicts, or attempts or threatens to inflict, any physical or psychological damage.

If you have been charged with domestic violence, it is crucial that you contact one of our attorneys at Jones Law Group immediately. Charges can be confusing so retaining experienced counsel is your best first step.

People often assume that they can't be charged if the accuser drops the charges or doesn't wish to press charges.  In California, you can and will be prosecuted even if the accuser no longer wants to pursue any action.  So make sure you are protected.

Also, sometimes it will be ill-advised to continue a relationship with the accuser, or the legal system will instill a protective order against you thereby not allowing you to see your spouse, partner or other loved ones.   We can advise you as you navigate this difficult situation.
